Launch Pad hosts Welcome to Campus Kick-off Party for Spring 2022
On Thursday 28 July 2022, Launch Pad hosted a Kick-off Party to welcome Western students, staff and the startup community to the Parramatta Engineering Innovation Hub (PEIH) campus for Spring 2022.
We saw over a hundred guests register to attend, with more students and staff on campus passing by to join in and enjoy pizza, refreshments, and interactive activities at the Launch Pad Virtual Hub on Level 1.
Students and staff hailed from all different schools, including Business, Humanities, Communications, Social Sciences, Engineering, Design and Built Environment, Nursing, Health Sciences, and Computer, Data and Mathematical Sciences.
Guests experienced an Augmented Reality (AR) HoloLens demonstration by Kirk Duncan, founder and CEO of The Mobile Apps Man, and were also able to trial the headset and various HoloLens apps.
The Launch Pad Team facilitated the Virtual Reality (VR) Challenge, powered by the Oculus Quest 2, where two players work collaboratively to defuse a ticking time bomb in a virtual room in the game ‘Keep Talking and Nobody Explodes’. At first students struggled to use the VR headsets but after a few more attempts they became confident in using the device.
Attendees were also able to explore the Virbela Metaverse, an immersive experience into a virtual world including access to the beach, the gym, a speakeasy and a shopping complex— this highlighted the exciting potential of VR and AR in our everyday lifestyle.
For many students, this was their first time visiting the PEIH campus as it was the first week of the new semester. We are excited to announce that we will be host regular activations and events on campus in the Launch Pad space to grow our community of Western students, staff and startups.
