Research collaboration with Western Sydney manufacturer, Maxton Fox, to focus on circular economy

Maxton Fox: Belinda Hall, Marketing Director, and Dennis Hall, Founding Director

Western Sydney University’s School of Engineering and Launch Pad Technology Business Incubator are collaborating with Maxton Fox to transform their approach to commercial furniture design and manufacture through a focus on Industry 4.0 and circular economy and to drive sustainable development for their business.

The review will draw on the School’s advanced manufacturing expertise and will assess the manufacturer’s product design and development process with recommendations to be guided by the latest circular economy practices.

Professor Richard Yang from the School of Engineering will lead the review to focus on the production cycle of a chair and a workstation, with support from Launch Pad.

“Western Sydney is home to a growing Advanced Manufacturing industry driven by the significant infrastructure and transport development within the region,” said Professor Yang.

“There is a unique opportunity to support manufacturers to be more innovative and sustainable to achieve the best outcomes not only for businesses, but importantly, for the environment and wider economy.”

“The recommendations from this production review will help Maxton Fox to produce key products in a much more sustainable and efficient way and pave the way for further innovations across its broader product line.”

According to Professor Yang, the School of Engineering and the Launch Pad initiative are working with an increasing number of manufacturers in Western Sydney to help them develop more efficient design practices.

“Working with our industry partners is an important part of improving and growing the industry. It’s also an opportunity to leverage our research and contribute to best practice,” he said.

Maxton Fox manufactures commercial furniture at scale in Australia and has been located in Western Sydney since 1970. They have a strong focus on high-quality in-house production.

“Partnering with Launch Pad and having the opportunity to work closely with Professor Yang and his team at the School of Engineering from Western Sydney University is going to bring so much value and knowledge to our business and reinforce our sustainable manufacturing capabilities,” said Belinda Hall, Marketing Director Maxton Fox.
