Cutting-edge Startup and Student Collaboration
The Mobile Apps Man is a software company that uses HoloLens mixed reality and holographic computing to power innovation in business. In 2022, Launch Pad saw the collaboration of this cutting-edge startup and Western Sydney University students. The year-long collaboration provided the opportunity for three students in the Bachelor of Information and Communication Technology course to work with the startup
CEO and founder Kirk Duncan says,
“The engagement with Launch Pad has given me the ability to work directly with students to solve important issues and make the most of real opportunities in our business”.
Kirk and his team specialise in holographic computing, otherwise known as mixed reality (MR). By using this technology, they provide an untethered VR experience where you can interact with your surrounding environment while working with tangible holographic elements. Currently, Kirk and the student interns are working together to integrate remote collaboration into the software, ultimately allowing a remote user that can be anywhere in the world to assist the HoloLens user in real-time. Christian Cignarella, a cyber security major says that “through making these alterations they hope to provide a more seamless and collaborative experience to the user”. The Mobile Apps Man team is also currently working on a forensic technology for forensic scientists that enables a crime scene to be created in any space imaginable.
