We are thrilled to announce the latest recipients of the Women and Multicultural program, recognizing outstanding entrepreneurs who are driving innovation and change in our communities. Among the recipients of the $10,000 grant are Jason Mak and Joseph Pham, co-founders of the startup Descretion.

Descretion is on a mission to revolutionize the protection and monetization of intellectual property for creatives and creative businesses. With a focus on copyright, trademarks, and patents, Descretion aims to provide an application that empowers creators to safeguard their work.

In a recent conversation, we had the opportunity to sit down with Jason, the CTO of Descretion, and Joseph, COO, to discuss his startup journey and the impact of the Women and Multicultural program. Jason shared insights into how Descretion operates as a backbone for digital creators, offering them a platform to register their intellectual property and provide legal validation for their digital assets.

Journey Through Innovation

The Impact of the Women and Multicultural Program

Joseph Pham, COO of Descretion, also reflected on his experience with the program, emphasizing the transformative nature of initiatives like the Ignition accelerator program and the Women and Multicultural program. Through mentorship and structured guidance, Joseph and Jason were able to refine their business model, attract promising opportunities, and secure the $10,000 grant.

“I really liked the approach that the EIRs had, which is look, you know, we're gonna encourage you to both celebrate your wins, but also to really evaluate your assumptions. And, and that, that really helped us to think critically and it helped us to identify some potential pivot points.”

The Significance of the $10K Grant

“The ability to actually pursue our dreams and to even extend our dream a little bit further so that we have a shot at, that’s, that’s what the grant has meant to us.”

Being awarded the grant has been a significant milestone for Descretion, providing them with the financial support needed to pursue their entrepreneurial dreams without compromising their basic needs. Beyond the monetary assistance, the grant has enabled Joseph and Jason to explore diverse engagement options, conduct extensive experiments, and gather valuable data to inform their strategy.

Looking ahead to 2024, Joseph’s goals for Descretion are ambitious yet attainable. He aims to raise initial capital to establish an overseas presence, particularly in markets like Europe and the United States, where there is significant interest in Descretion’s offerings. With plans to refine messaging and expand market reach, Joseph is confident in Descretion’s potential to carve out a niche in the global intellectual property landscape.

In offering advice to aspiring entrepreneurs, Jason emphasized the importance of exploring multiple ideas concurrently and leveraging customer feedback to refine business models effectively. He encouraged entrepreneurs to maintain a diverse portfolio of ideas and to remain resilient in the face of challenges.

We congratulate Jason Mak and Joseph Pham on this well-deserved recognition and look forward to witnessing the continued growth and impact of Descretion in the digital ecosystem.
