Welcomed Opportunities For Over 1000 Western Students

Welcome To Welcome Week!

Two weeks ago, Western Sydney University kicked off its annual Welcome Week (Orientation Week) at Parramatta South Campus where Launch Pad helped host, alongside almost 100 other stalls, thousands of students – participating over two action-packed days to bring new enrolees an array of information, entertainment, and prizes ahead of the 2024 Autumn semester commencing!

Our industry partner, Omron also joined us at our stall with their innovative and eye-catching Skill Tester machine that exposed Western students to a new and engaging application of Cobots in the real-world – using the familiarisation of arcade claw machines in the Skill Tester’s design to engross students and invite them to put their skills to the test, manipulating the Cobot arm to pick up prize balls.

Here, students had the opportunity to win Launch Pad merch from our prize wheel AND the Skill Tester – from lanyards to notebooks to tote bags to hoodies, it’s no surprise that students were lined up around the corner! Our stall also had our Launch Pad student team raring and ready to go during rain and shine to talk to students about all things Launch Pad including our upcoming events, microcredentials, startup opportunities, women and multicultural programs, and ‘Factory of the Future’ (just to name a few!). Students studying all disciplines – from Business Analytics to Construction Management to Health Sciences to Law – found solace and a sense of community at our booth.

Carla Dias Wadewitz, Senior Manager of Innovation Strategy and Services, also took time to spearhead a session across both days, talking to students about how they can make the most of their degree by harnessing innovation and partaking in Launch Pad’s programs and events to improve their job-readiness and employability in the future as well as in the now. Carla’s sessions invaluably informed commencing and continuing students on the breadth and scope of opportunity available to them with Launch Pad year-round – including a $50 voucher giveaway on the day as well as information on how to win $1000 in the upcoming mid-semester break!

Entertaining and gifting prizes to almost 1200 students at our Launch Pad stall alone, we would call Welcome Week a success! See you again next year, Welcome Week! We’ll miss you.

In the meantime, students can reconnect with Launch Pad through any one of our programs –

  • Fancy innovation challenges?
  • Looking for an engaging and employability-promoting elective?
  • Want to connect with like-minded individuals or just always open to receiving free food?

Join the family on Launch Pad Live to receive information on our upcoming events and how you can partake.

Goodluck to all students studying this 2024 Autumn semester!
